Rain heads
Rain heads for Pre filtration of Rainwater before entering rainwater tanks

Rain heads are a simple and effective way of taking any large dust or debris out of the water before it enters the tank. There are a number of different rain heads and pre filtration solutions available.

Most rain head devices have two stages of filtration:

  • the first is a larger gauge mesh that separates any large debris such as leaves and twigs
  • a secondary and finer mesh that removes smaller debris and also acts as a mosquito proof mesh protecting the water in the tank from mosquitoes

Rain heads should be installed on all downpipes feeding into a tank. They should be accessible for inspection and periodic cleaning.

The latest rain heads require little maintenance as improving designs mean that debris is less likely to settle on the screens.

In some cases, whole of roof filters may be more appropriate than rain heads attached to each down pipe. Click here to see our range of domestic and commercial whole of roof pre-filtration units.
