Water Bladder Tanks

A bladder tank is the best way to utilise wasted space under your house or deck. It won't take up valuable space in your garden and because your water storage is hidden, you won't have to worry about how it looks.

Limited Space for Water Storage? Limited Access for Water Storage?

A bladder tank is an ideal solution if you have limited space or access where you need to store water. Because a bladder tank rolls up to a fraction of its final filled size and it weighs very little relative to other tanks, it can be taken through almost any limited access area to its final location. The rule of thumb you should use is "if a person can get to the location, then a bladder tank can get to the location". if you are not sure if a bladder tank will fit into your space, call us on 1300 72 66 70 and we will tell you if it will fit through your access area or not!

Bladder tanks can be long and narrow, or they can even be made square. If you have limited space and you need to maximise your water storage, call us on 1300 72 66 70 and we will help you find the best solution.

Types of Water Bladder Tanks

There are two type of bladder tanks:

  • bladder tanks with a frame (hyperlink to eco sac with whole line formatted as hyperlink (blue with underline) but link only attributed to bladder tank?)
  • bladder tanks without a frame (reinforced bladder tanks) (hyperlink to eco sac with whole line formatted as hyperlink (blue with underline) but link only attributed to bladder tank?)

To decide which type of bladder tank is better for you, look at the features in the table below and decide which are most important to you.

 Framed Bladder TanksReinforced Bladder Tanks
Water storage Store up to 20% more water per square metre due to bladder filling into the frame and harness Reinforced material does not stretch so the capacity does not increase as for a framed bladder tank
Bladder Tank Size The steel frame "guarantees" the size of the bladder tank always remains the same The footprint of the bladder tank changes as the bladder tank expands and contracts as it fills and empties
Location of the Bladder Tank Ensures your bladder tank will always stay inside the frame and not touch any part of the building structure Without a frame, there is a risk that the bladder tank might move in heavy rainfall events or if the ground is not completely level
Bladder Tank Cost Usually more expensive due to the steel frame and harness Cheaper without the frame

What should I look for in a Bladder Tank?

The key aspects you must consider in evaluating any bladder tank you purchase are:

  • make sure it has rigid connections for all pipe work
  • make sure all bladder tank connections are permanently visible and accessible
  • make sure that your bladder tank has a full material and workmanship warranty that can be tracked by a unique serial number

  • Rigid Connections and Fixed Pipe Work
"....water and moving parts do not go together...."
The most critical requirement of a bladder water tank solution is that it does not put stress or load on the pipes delivering water to or from the bladder tank.
"....one thousand litres of water weighs one tonne...."
Ensure that any bladder tank solution you consider has fixed connections to your downpipes. Flexible connections potentially put stress on rigid pipes that will cause them to crack and fail.
  • Permanently Accessible Pipe Work
Like all water tanks, your bladder tank or pump may need to be maintained from time to time. So it is really important that all connections to your bladder tank are always visible and permanently accessible. For example, if the bladder tank connections are under the bladder tank they cannot be seen and arelikely to have the full weight of the water (1 tonne per 1,000 litres) resting on top of them)
  • Bladder Tank Warranty, Testing and Serial Number
The quality of your bladder tank will depend on the material used and the quality procedures and systems the manufacturer uses to make it. You should ensure that:
o    your bladder tank has a full material and workmanship warranty
o    that every single bladder tank is tested before it leaves the factory
o    that your bladder tank will have a unique tracking number to ensure that the warranty can be tracked and linked back to the manufacturing process

Water Quality

Water quality is just as important as using wasted space and hiding your water tank. The most common issue with water quality is the growth of algae in water tanks. A unique advantage of an under house or under deck water bladder tank is that it is dark and cool relative to anywhere else around your home. That is really important because algae requires heat and light to grow. A bladder tank under your house or under your deck means you don't have to worry about algae growth.
